Baba Ramdev Cleverly Defends Asaram

When Baba Ramdev advises the saints not to meet Women and Girls in private, he cleverly gives the message to the world that Asaram’s only mistake is that he met the Girl in private, without any supervision of a legal guardian.

Speaking to Amar Ujala yesterday, Baba Ramdev advised the media not to paint all saints in India with the same brush. The talkative Baba categorically stated that the mistakes committed by some saints shouldn’t  blemish the entire Saint community.

Adding further, he advised the saints in India – Not to meet Women and Girls in Private.

The piece of advice Baba Ramdev has for saints, is ridiculous. It is absurd. It is immoral.

Why?

asaram, bapu, sexual, assault, article 376, Baba Ramdev Cleverly Defends Asaram, Baba Ramdev advises sages to maintain distance from women As Asaram’s problems didn’t arise as he met the 15 year old privately. That too all alone. The problem arose because of the acts he is accused to have committed during that private meeting.

When Baba Ramdev advises the saints not to meet Women and Girls in private, he cleverly gives the message to the world that Asaram’s only mistake is that he met the Girl in private, without any supervision of a legal guardian. This we know is not the truth (as far as the accusations go).

On another note, if a saint is better than we mortals, as is often claimed, then he/she can meet anyone in private, with no supervision, and no question of personal impropriety ever arise. But, this we know is not the case as well.

Asaram, met the Girl after 11 at night, sent her parents to another cottage and one or two days later, the Girl narrated to her parents what happened that night. No one in their right frame of mind is asking – Why Bapu (so called) sent the Girl’s parents to another cottage?

Godman has Feet of Clay

Baba Ramdev’s clever statements aimed at defending Asaram, have once again established an accepted belief — Godman has the Feet of Clay. The quote means – No matter how tall claims are made, saints are no way immune to the weaknesses ordinary mortals have. When Baba Ramdev advises the Saint community in India not to meet the female gender in private, without any legal guardian, he unconsciously proves that the saints are as much susceptible to human weaknesses as anyone else.

In India, and across the world, people meet each other in private and without any supervision. People do live with each other as well. Adult brothers and sisters share apartments, fathers-in-law live with widowed daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law live with sisters-in-law, Grandfathers live with granddaughters, uncles live with nieces, aunties live with nephews and so on. In majority of cases no one accuses the other of sexual assault! But when accusations are made then there is more to them then simply living alone with the other.

Hence Baba Ramdev must not absolve Asaram of the crime. We have Courts in India to decide that.

That said. Baba Ramdev’s supporters are running a hideous campaign online in support of Asaram. They are posting thoughts like “Satya Pareshan Ho Sakta Hai, Parajit nahin” (Truth can be Upset, But will Never be Defeated) OR “We All Make Mistakes, It is How We Come Back From Mistakes, that Matters”.

To be honest, some mistakes are more than just mistakes. If the accusations of the 15 year old Girl are true, then Asaram has committed a Crime. And a Heinous Crime. He has shattered the trust of the Girl, her parents, his disciples and society. If his entire career is destroyed after that, then it must be no surprise.
