It all began with Modi exhorting Indian farmers give a piece of iron. The idea was to collect that much iron to create a giant statue of Sardar vallabh Bhai Patel. But the idea soon went to the oblivion. Then on October 31st 2013, BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi laid the foundation of a mammoth statue of Sardar Patel — A statue, once made and installed, will be biggest in the world, much bigger than statue of liberty and others of note.
Is BJP mistakenly celebrating Congressman Vallabh Bhai Patel?
This question arises as it was the same Vallabh Bhai Patel who while as Home Minister of independent India, imposed a ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or RSS, the parent organisation of BJP. That apart, earlier BJP used to call Lal Krishna Advani as the Loh Purush, now it’s projecting Vallabh Bhai Patel as one.
Actually, it’s up to BJP who it wants to project as its mascots; but there are a few things it must note. One, it should choose its mascots in such a way that it doesn’t show political bankruptcy. If a person in his life time banned BJP’s parent organisation RSS, then how can he be the right face to steer ahead BJP’s ideology.
Taking the debate further, another personality BJP is desperately trying to use is Swami Vivekananda. From the literature I’ve read about Vivekananda so far, I can say Swami Vivekananda didn’t support the RSS and the BJP ideology. He was proud of Indian culture and Vedas; but his support was rarely to Vaishnavite form of Hinduism. Instead his approach to Hinduism was more tilted towards the one devoid of rituals and idol worship. Broadly speaking Vivekananda’s religion was aimed at making Young people open minded and not the ones restricted by religion, caste or other distinctions. Thus Vivekananda can never be the worthy ideologue of BJP-RSS ideology. To sum up, not all saffron clad humans can automatically belong to BJP.
It appears that BJP is in a hurry to churn out new ideas for its 2014 Lok Sabah Election campaigns. But, at present it appears that it’s ignoring the good work of its own ideologues and vainly searching outside.
Going by the rise of BJP in the past 30 years, Can anyone other than Lal Krishna Advani be better BJP-RSS ideologue?
