In a bid to push adoption of e-payments in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30 launched a Digital Payments App. The app is called BHIM.
According to NITI Aayog CEO, the app enables fast and secure cashless transactions using mobile phones.
Since its launch on December 30, 2016, the BHIM app has been downloaded 30 Lakh or 3 million times. Over 5 Lakh transactions were made during this period.
BHIM stands for Bharat Interface for Money. Developed by National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), BHIM is a simplified payment platform designed to make Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and USSD payment modes simpler and usable across feature phones and smart phones. BHIM is inter-operable with other Unified Payment Interface (UPI) applications and bank accounts.
Availability: Go to Play Store in your mobile device. Search for BHIM and download it. The app is currently available in Hindi and English.
Compatibility: At present BHIM is supported by host of banks, including State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce and Punjab National Bank etc.
