Some of you will see this as nit-picking (in Hindi “Meen Mek nikalna”). But try sharing this News report title with someone. The person will instantly ask : EVMs Kahan Badli Gai?
Today’s Amar Ujala has a news report, whose title reads “Mock Drill Me EVM Badli Gai“. In English the title means — EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) got changed in Mock Drill.
This is a clever title. As, with no disrespect to Hindi readers, most readers will not understand what “Mock” means. That apart, if a reader gives a casual glance to the newspaper; then he/she will assume the news as one reporting about some act of Booth capturing, where the miscreants or criminals changed the EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines). Amidst all the propaganda about the tamper-ability of EVMs , in many News Channels; this Clever News Title can snowball into a big Propaganda against the EVMs.
Some of you will see this as nit-picking (in Hindi “Meen Mek nikalna”). But try sharing this News report title with someone. The person will instantly ask : EVMs Kahan Badli Gai? (Which Place the EVMs got changed? )
In the true spirit of Journalism, the title of the News report should have been :
Chunav Ayog ne taiyarioyon ki Jaanch Ki (The Election Commission Checked its Election Preparation).
We are living at the height of propaganda.
