Book Review: Discover, develop natural talents with ‘StrengthsFinder 2.0’
Who is successful in Life. Although there may be many answers to this Question; But One Answer which adequately answers the Question is: A person who gets Ultimate Satisfaction from his/her Profession and Life; is a Successful Person ( Just Give this a Thought, and you will see that the Answer is really the Answer).
The best way to become such a person is to Swim with the Flow. That’s choose a Profession and a Life, which is in tandem to your natural talents and passions. For instance, if you are not good at Speaking, taking a job, which requires public Speaking will not make you happy (As Speech Defects Therapist Lionnel Logue suggests Future King George VI’s wife, in the academy Awards winning movie, The King’s Speech).
A new book by Tom Rath, approaches Success the same way. It helps readers discover and develop their natural talents through the print book and an online assessment.
The Author puts the crux of the book, this way,
“People who do have the opportunity to focus on their strengths every day are six times as likely to be engaged in their jobs and more than three times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life in general.”
Author’s suggestion can only be implemented, when one’s profession has same as his/her strengths or he/she has time to work on them.
Thus the book’s main premise is that people must identify and then work at their specific strengths to increase their level of engagement at work or in life. Yes, even if a person is at a job which is a complete mismatch; still he/she can look for those areas inside that job, which appear relatively interesting to him/her.
According to Author, a person’s job and goals should align with his/her natural talents, and this will lead to increased worker satisfaction and overall improved happiness.
To help the reader, accomplish this, the book includes hundreds of strategies for applying one’s strengths to one’s life and profession. The Book’s accompanying website is an additional resource, that also has the potential to change the way you look at yourself, your job and the world around you.
The book is also great for organizations on how to approach coaching and evaluation, and on how to encourage employees find their own talents.
