Hinduism can incorporate other religions in itself … Acceptance Comes

Some days ago, when RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, called everyone living in India as a Hindu, he was reminded by many Indians, that everyone who lives in India or Bharat is an Indian. And an Indian can be a Sikh, Christian, Parsi, Hindu , tribal by religion.

But keeping in view upcoming Assembly elections and Bye-elections in many States; the parent Organisation of BJP, the RSS, is desperate to win some votes for its political wing, the BJP.

That’s why only yesterday, Mr. Bhagwat tried his hand at yet another polarization tactic. RSS Head or Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said India is a Hindu nation and Hindutva is its identity. Below are his words,

“Hindustan is a Hindu nation…Hindutva is the identity of our nation and it (Hinduism) can incorporate others (religions) in itself,”

In my previous article this kind of arrogance of BJP and RSS, I talked about. The arrogance that, Hinduism (specifically Vaishnavism) has all the ability (propaganda machine, tactics and tricks) to eat all the other religions and Cultures. Since, One monolithic Hindu Religion suits RSS’s political wing, hence it will try every trick to incorporate all religions and caste identities (tribals, dalits, Sikhs, local cultures etc.) into one Hindu fold. All the talk of minority appeasement is sham. If a muslim converts to Hinduism, RSS will even accept him. Why? As he then becomes a vote.

Unlike many publications, who are seeing Mohan Bhagwat’s polarising comments as an embarrassment to the BJP Government, I see them as carefully placed statements to get its political wing some votes.

If such tactics keep going on, then the citizens of India will see themselves exactly at the same place five years from now, wrt price rise and jobs, and every other growth indicator. Why? as countries which vote on the name of religion, seldom grow. Example is Pakistan. When irrational fear is put in the minds of the biggest religion; the country stops analysing political decisions rationally. Example is Pakistan.

Mr. Bhagwat’s another statement that, “The cultural identity of all Indians is Hindutva and the present inhabitants of the country are descendants of this great culture.” is wrong. Even after having my religious identity Hindu, my cultural identity is the identity of my village, caste and personal traditions.

Nationality-wise, I’m an Indian or a Bharateeya. As Constitution defines us.

Masquerading his statements as some humane views on caste discrimination in India, Mr. Bhagwat said,

“For the next 5 years we have to work with the aim of bringing equality among all the Hindus in the country. All Hindus should be drinking water at one place, should be praying at one place and after their death, their bodies should be burnt at the same place,”.

Actually, what Mr. Bhagwat dreams of in the above statement, is least wanted. What is desired, is the appreciation of an Indian irrespective of his/her caste, class, creed, region and religion. Tell you, every individual wants to practice his/her age old traditions. He/she doesn’t want One monolithic Hinduism to teach him/her how to Pray or live life.
