Opportunities offered by IGNOU Diploma in Meat Technology (DMT):
IGNOU Diploma in Meat Technology (DMT) is a welcome course offering from People’s university, as the meat processing does have a potential in India. If not for every Indian, but surely for those who are into meat business for ages. But for such individuals educational eligibility may be a problem. Since selling meat is a caste linked activity in India, wherein many such families don’t put their children to schools; it will hard to predict how successful this IGNOU Diploma in Meat Technology (DMT) will be.
That said, the key opportunity IGNOU Diploma in Meat Technology (DMT) offers is for entrepreneurs in meat business. Such entrepreneurs can be from the castes which traditionally are in the meat business OR can be those professionally qualified youth who are into Food, catering, restaurant, Hotel industry. Having a IGNOU Diploma in Meat Technology (DMT) can always serve them, as that will give them the leeway to expand into meat processing business as an entrepreneur. If Godrej can sell chicken, why can’t they.
India’s milkman late Verghese Kurien in his book reasons that India couldn’t turn its Livestock (biggest in the world) into a productive dairy business, in terms of quantities of milk generation, as the country doesn’t have ways to dispose off its non-productive cattle (those whose milk yield decreases). Here a non-productive cattle is simply abandoned in forests, roads and is allowed to die on its own. Since there is no productive use of a male milch cattle (bull), the male infant is either abandoned within days of its birth or is killed by some so called humane ways. In countries where, Dairy is the main industry, Dairy and Meat business go parallel to each other.
