Indian Railways SMS Ticket Reservation Service launched. Available 8 AM to 12 PM Daily.
If PNR Enquiry via SMS has made your life less hassle; then get ready to be even less hassle. Indian Railways has launched SMS Ticket Reservation Service yesterday. With the launch, Indian Railways travellers can now book their Rail ticket reservation by sending a simple SMS or by calling from their basic mobile phone (advanced or smartphone is not needed). To book a ticket, all a customer has to do, is send two SMSes. Each of these SMSes will cost Rs 3. Other charges will be the same as on Online Booking.
Indian Railways has started the service in collaboration with its own arm irctc and some mobile operators in the country.
Notably, about 4 lakh tickets (account for 45 percent of all tickets booked daily) are booked online through IRCTC portals everyday. With the advent of SMS Ticket Reservation Service, the online booking of rail tickets is expected to increase. Keeping this in mind, the Government is planning to increase the booking capacity ot 9 Lakh.
Indian Railways SMS Ticket Reservation Service:
1) Mobile Booking of Rail Tickets will be available from 8:00 AM to 12 PM daily.
2) To book a rail ticket, one has to send an SMS to 139 or 5676714. IRCTC has also signed agreement with Interbank Mobile, Airtel Money and Andhra Bank.
3) Those customers who have BSNL Mobile service, java enabled mobiles (All Basic or feature phones come in this category) and Andhra Bank Prepaid Card, can book their rail ticket by SMS via a MPin on a special application.
4) Airtel customers can book their rail tickets via USSD based service. For this, the customer has to first register at Airtel Money. After that he/she has to dial *400#. Besides the short code 5676714, one can even send an SMS to 139 or the Airtel Money system *400# or the system powered by Pyro where one needs to have a BSNL SIM card enabled with Java computer language.
How To Use Indian Railways SMS Ticket Reservation Service:
In order to use Indian Railways SMS Ticket Reservation Service, the customer has to register his/her mobile number at IRCTC and his/her bank. On registration, the Bank will give Mobile Money Identifier (MMI) and One Time Password (OTP). After that the person can book his rail ticket by sending an SMS to either 139 0r 5676714.
In the SMS message Box, Type:
BOOK [Train Number] FROM [station Code] TO [Station Code] [Date of Journey] [Class] [Traveller Name] [Age] [M/F]
And send it to 139.
You will instantly receive an SMS with Transaction ID, IMPS, and other details.
In the SMS message Box, Type:
PAY [Transaction ID] [IMPS] [MMID] [OTP] [IRCTC user id]
and send it to 139.
You will instantly receive an SMS on the status of Booking and all other ticket details. This will be equivalent to a paper ticket.
NOTE: To book a rail ticket at 5676714, the customer has to send RAIL (in english) to 5676714 and then follow the instructions stated above.
