Micromax Canvas 4 smartphone. Dual SIM. Android. 5-inch 720p display, 13MP camera. Rs 17999.

Micromax has unveiled its newest flagship in India yesterday: the Micromax Canvas 4 (aka A210) Dual SIM Android smartphone. The smartphone has an aluminum rim wrapping the handset, which measures 8.99mm thick (0.35 inch) and tips the scales at 158 grams.

Micromax Canvas 4 runs Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean. And has interesting features like blow-to-unlock, look-away video pausing (similar to ‘Smart Pause’ found on Samsung), flip phone to mute and pop-up window multitasking. One gimmicky feature is the burst shot mode, which lets you capture up to 99 photos in less than 15 seconds and allows you to choose the best one (who will click 99 photos is anybody’s guess. Only a person who has exceptional eye for detail will choose one from 99).

Micromax Canvas 4 is Dual SIM with dual standby similar to other Micromax smartphones.

Micromax Canvas 4Micromax Canvas 4 sports 1280x720p resolution capacitive touchscreen, a 5-inch 720p IPS LCD display (under a Gorilla Glass panel), MediaTek MT6589 1.2GHz quad-core processor, PowerVR SGX 544 graphics chip, 1GB of RAM and 2,000mAh battery.

The Micromax Canvas 4 has 16GB of internal storage (expandable to 32GB), 13-megapixel main camera with Sony sensor (lets you shoot 1080p videos) and 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

Connectivity options include : 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, micro USB.

Availability of Micromax Canvas 4:  Has “Pristine White” and “Smoky Grey” colour options. Micromax Canvas 4 is priced at Rs 17999, with a free aluminum flip cover worth Rs 2,999 offered for free.

First Impression:  Micromax Canvas HD, a sub Rs 15000 smartphone, was a game changer sort of. Micromax Canvas 4, though appears to be an evolution of Canvas HD, the specifications are more or less same as Canvas HD, except the camera having Sony Sensor, which seems a definite step forward. How the camera actually fares can only be judged with real clicking; that’s how it brings the details and sharpness that better cameras can manage.
