Nokia, which had the bear share in developing markets like India, when basic phones ruled the roost; gradually lagged behind when the people in these countries transitioned to smartphones. Although the price difference between a basic phone and a smartphone is significant; the transition took place rather seamlessly, courtesy low cost smartphones rolled out by Chinese and indigenous manufacturers.
