Anyone who tells you — If your name is NOT in voter list then you can cast your vote by showing voter id card, Aadhaar card, Driving license etc. is telling you a LIE. Don’t believe him/her. Do this instead.
Has any WhatsApp forward informed you that in case, on the voting day, you find your name missing from the voter list; then all you have to do is just show your Aadhar card or voter ID and; you will be allowed to cast your vote.
If you have received one such WhatsApp forward then you are being misled and you are being told a lie.
If your name is NOT in the voter list (for whatever reason), YOU CANNOT DO ANYTHING.
That’s why you have to check your name in voter list in advance. It tells you whether or not your name has been registered as a voter in the upcoming elections. You can Click on this Link to check whether your name is present in the electoral roll.
What to do if your name is present in the polling list, but on the polling booth on the voting day, you find your vote already cast by someone else?
Then he/she can bring or challenge that to the presiding officer’s notice. Who will give him/her a form to cancel his/her vote (already cast). But in NO CASE HE/SHE WILL BE ALLOWED TO CAST HIS/HER VOTE.
Only if the Election Commission is satisfied that too many votes have been cast by those other than “The authentic voters”; it can announce re-polling in the said booth. But there is NO particular percentage as 14 percent or 16 percent for such challenges required for such re-polling decision.
And finally, on the voting day, along with your Voter Identity card do take along your other identity proofs such as Aadhaar Card, Passport, Driving License, PAN card etc. This will help you establish your identity in case the electoral officer suspects it.
To conclude, now that you know the correct information, please don’t share any fake or misleading WhatsApp forward.
