Politics of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Death | Blame the Mice!

There are reasons why certain archived records are not brought to the public domain. The loss from bringing them to the public domain, is many folds more than the gain. That’s why even after more than half a century, the records of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Death, are still undisclosed.

But this dilemma is not for the Government of any particular political party. The dilemma is for every Government. Simply because, at stake are the bigger interests of the country, including its relations with other countries.

More than a year has passed, and the new Government is doing exactly what all previous Governments did. Remain silent on the demands of making public the records of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Death. This tells, how much things change when someone comes in power. Tell you, the present BJP Government will use the cloudiness regarding Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, every now and then; but it will never make public the records of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Death. And irrespective of how the party, when not in power, used the issue to rattle the Nation; its silence or inaction at present can be understood. Especially by those who see things in a broader perspective.

But, it’s not good to rattle the Nation, simply to get votes. If something can’t be fulfilled, then it cannot be an embellishment of some election speech.

I don’t know, in what tone, India’s first Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah made the statement at the Centre for Media Studies Hyderabad, while speaking at the release of book by Information Commissioner Sridhar Acharyulu – RTI Use and Abuse – which is based on his first year of experience in the Commission during which he has delivered around 3,200 orders. To qoute, he said,

“When Prime Minister had gone to Germany, some relatives of Netaji had met him and spoken to him about the records regarding the death of or survival of Netaji and what happened to him in the infamous plane crash in Soviet Union.

“The reason why the papers are not being disclosed, all kinds of arguments are being given, because they are not there. Either they have been eaten up or disintegrated or lost. That is how records of Government of India are being maintained,”

Lets not see any sarcasm in the statement; and put the blame entirely on mice. But mice are picky eaters. When they have buildings full of files; they might not have eaten entire files.
