Ramaiya Vastavaiya Movie Review: For 20 somethings

Ramaiya Vastavaiya is a movie for 20 somethings. Prabhu Deva’s direction and Sachin – Jigar’s music is the USP. Shruti Hassan looks Beautiful in every screen.

Ramaiya Vastavaiya Movie Review: For 20 somethingsThe other movie released with the D-Day is Ramaiya Vastavaiya .

The movie genre is romantic comedy. With Ramaiya Vastavaiya, director Prabhu Deva has entered into romantic comedy genre, a nice change after action blocbuster movies like, Wanted and Rowdy Rathod.

As if he has mastered the art of remaking South Indian blockbusters, Ramaiya Vastavaiya is again the remake of South blockbuster named Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana.

Ramaiya Vastavaiya is the debut movie of Girish kumar, son of producer Ramesh torani (tips). The movie’s basic plot is quite similar to the movies “maine pyar kiya” and “jab pyar kiya to darana kya”, where a rich boy tries to win his love against the opposition of Girl’s family.

To sum up the movie, Ram (girish kumar) a playboy from Australia, and son of a billionaire played by randhir kapoor, visits India to attend the marriage of his cousin . There he meets her friend sona ( shruti hasan) and both fall in love.

The status divide between the two families soon surfaces, and  from there the story is simply how Ram wins her love against all odds.

Overall the movie is well paced. The movie’s first half  manages to retain the audience with good humor, situations and nice gags played by paresh ganatra (bijali) and Mushtaq khan, who is always busy on mobile and goon played by Zakir Hussain.

The second half of the movie goes to a different tangent, wherein it’s all about Ram winning the respect of raghuvir (Sona’s brother) and win back his girl. If the first half is good, the second half is better. Overall the movie has a right balance and compactness to hold the viewer.

Shruti hasan, as Sona, looks convincing. Shruti now appears more comfortable on screen and looks great (her sharp good looks may be from her mother, actor Sarika Thakur ).

Unfortunately, Girish is flat most of the movie. But maybe that’s due to the script. Or may be because it’s his debut movie, where the director was instructed beforehand to encourage the young lad.

Sonu Sood as a loving and protecting brother for little sister, is a good change. Especially after creating a villainous image that of cheedi singh (dabang).

The music in the movie by Sagar-jigar is awesome, vibrant and youthful. The movie goes well with the love story and brings flow to the overall plot.  Songs like jeene laga hoon, rang jo lagago rey , bariya, jadoo ki jappi and pammi are already in chartbusters.

One thing which appeared missing:

Surely, gone are the ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ Days, where the female lead used to look almost wife-like in her feelings and acts towards her love. Gone are the days, when girls were shown soft as petal and feeble as a twine. But still,  when you include these things in a romance, the intensity of love increases. Sadly the movie lacks this love intensity. Here you can compare the movie more with Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya.

Another area where the movie could have done better is on better use of veterans like Randhir kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Satish Shah, Govind Namdeo and Vinod khanna. As a rule of thumb, if a film maker can’t give good lines to the big names, he should not rope them in. This simply distracts the audience from the main leads.

Overall, Ramaiya Vastavaiya is a movie which College going, young people will enjoy. The movie with Prabhu Deva direction and Sachin – Jigar’s music will help it get fans among this audience.
