Excessive Nationalism, Majoritarianism and Poll management will have diminishing returns in future.
Sometimes I worry about the promises and the thanks the present Prime minister Mr. Narendra Modi doles out on a daily basis.
The worry is NOT about why he promises so much.
The worry is about the ever increasing pile of promises.
As far as ‘thanks’ are concerned, they seem to appear more worrisome. In a way that they tend to make excuses for unfulfilled promises and grounds for even more future promises.
This is worrisome.
The present prime minister of India must detach himself from the election mode and start thinking about doing some serious work away from the media spotlight. Yesterday’s election results are sufficient indication of the fact that — excessive Nationalism, Majoritarianism and Poll management will have diminishing returns in future. In addition, the party in Government, the BJP’s tendency to be extravagant in its spending needs to be cut drastically.
BJP alone spent nearly Rs. 27000 crore in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. This makes for 45 percent of total election expenditure for 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
It must be noted that the election expenditure of all the remaining parties was not this exorbitant.
To conclude, sooner than later the present prime minister will have to deliver on those promises. The economy is in a slow-down. So sooner than later, people’s real issues will start surfacing. Winning elections is great, but focusing ONLY on the next election is not good.
